Sheldon Jackson College was a small private college. Founded in 1878, it was the oldest institution of higher learning in Alaska and maintained a historic relationship with the Presbyterian Church. It closed in 1007 and was taken over by the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in 2011.The campus was named a National Historic Landmark in 2001
