The museum is located in the house donated to the Municipality of Buenos Aires in 1938 by Félix Bunge . Between 1938 and 1948, the Argentine Folkloric Association administered the headquarters , complying with Bunge's request to create a folklore library, with the donor's private library, which received the name of José Hernández in 1942.In 1949, the City acquired the private Daws collection , built up from the late 19th century over five decades. The Daws family donated the valuable library and personal documentation consisting of letters, photo albums and newspaper clippings gathered by the famous collector In 1980,the Center for Craft Promotion (CEPAR)- was createdto promote crafts and contemporary artisans, in especially those in the interior of the country. n the year 2000 it began to be called the Museum of Popular Art
