Al Horreya Garden is known for its unique eleven statues of very important figures who had significant impact and positive change in their countries. Most of these statues were gifts to Egypt from the countries they represent . Under 19th century ruler Khedive Ismail the island was first called "Jardin des Plantes" (French for "Garden of Plants"), because of its great collection of exotic plants shipped from all over the world
