Time to leave the city skyscrapers for one in the Outback.
Another memorable hike today, 7 mi. (fortunately flat) around the base of Ayers Rock/Uluru. I'm not normally up for the hikes that start at sunrise, but it was worth seeing the variations of the light and colors. Photos barely do justice. Too close to get the whole thing, but seeing the details gave totally different perspective.
The Rock is very sacred to the traditional owners of this area, the indigenous Anangu tribe. It is spiritual to them, and climbing it is considered most sacrilegious. This, their original land has been returned to their custodianship, and it is now called Uluru. They are also extremely sensitive to their culture, stories being shared or portrayed by others. Several areas of the Rock, considered sacred sites were designated "no photos".
Well, I took them anyway, as I'm sure many do from vehicles, etc. My camera wasn't damaging anything or offending someone to their face. My compromise was not to post them on Fb.
