After the "peak time" on Heron Island, we thought we were "ready to go home". But we had planned a few days at the end for anything we missed, and a few special activities. We were glad we did. This time we were staying at a wharf area near the bridge where the old buildings are being wonderfully refurbished. Ours was the Pier One Marriott", at an interesting location on Dawes Point. The views never end !
First we had to see a show at the Opera House. Of the possibilities, the one which appealed most to both of us, was a play, "Accidental Death of an Anarchist", written by Italian Nobel Laureate Dario Fo. It was a funny, farce, timely. It made for a very enjoyable evening.
Earlier in the day, there was time to see the Queen Victoria Building, a beautiful indoor shopping arcade. Loved the clocks !
Day 2: We started with an exhibit at the Contemporary Art Museum. I would not have thought of this, but the exhibit of the painted bark works by Aboriginal artist John Mawurndjul was actually reviewed in the Washington Post to bring attention to this artist well regarded in other parts of the world, but unknown in US. So I figured it must be worth it. Not Dave's style, but I enjoyed it.
We walked around the Rocks, came upon the Quipao Festival which promotes the Chinese city of Hangzhou, with children performing music and dance. Loved it !
We enjoyed different views of the Harbor walking around Bangaroo Nature Reserve. In the evening, we had a great dinner with Mg's first friend from Drexel, Erica Anderson and her Aussie husband Michael Cassell. Excellent food and wonderful company who could give us different perspective of life in Sydney !
