Hello everyone,
On Monday 24th October we left Hervey Bay on the greyhound headed for Airlie Beach. The journey took almost 14 hours over night! I'm hoping that will be the longest bus journey I'll ever have to take. Surprisingly though it wasn't too uncomfortable and we got a good amount of sleep!
We arrived in Airline Beach at about 7am. The town is popular because it is the main port for boat trips heading to the Whitsunday Islands. Unfortunately we didn't go as we had run out of time and money by this point as we'd planned to go to Cape Tribulation instead. We decided to stop there to break up the journey to Cairns. After getting some breakfast we decided to make use of the beautiful man-made lagoon on the sea front. It's been created mainly due to the issue of box jellyfish in the sea, though we did see a few people swimming despite the scary looking warning signs! It was very hot and sunny on the day we were in Airlie Beach, so swimming in the lagoon was lovely. We also made use of our time there to buy me a replacement phone from a local supermarket. In the evening we went for dinner at the pub next to our hostel and had a few beers in the sunshine.
The next day we left Airlie Beach for Cairns.
Lots of love,
Jo and Ryan xxx
