Today I went to the to troglodyte caves which are caves that people lived in. They were called troglodytes. The village that they lived in was called Rochmeniere and has been turned into a museum. There were two farmsteads in the same complex, they were made up of:
. 1 barn;
. 1 wine cellar;
. Stalls for the animals;
. Lot’s of chicken nests in the walls;
. A chapel;
. A meeting hall;
. Bedrooms and family rooms.
The family’s all helped each other and living in a cave kept them and their animals safe from the wolves and thieves. It also protected them from the bad weather.
Captain Haddock, who is a character in The Adventures Of Tintin called one of the crew a troglodyte which means cave dweller.
On our way back to the campsite, we stopped at a chateau in Saumur.
