Little Mick's Hunny Harem Extravanganza
Howdy peoples,
The winery tour ended early in the morning at the hostel so I didn't surface until 2pm the next day. I thought I'd grab some lunch in Rosie's and see if there was any craic in their. It was raining so I couldn't do much site seeing and besides Cork would be playing later so I thought I'd get an early start. the Sunday session was supposed to be great in Freo.
I had the dinner and was just finished in time for the Dublin band that were playing at 3ish. They were fairly good apart from taking the mick out of me in my Cork jersey and sitting on my own. That worked in my favour as the table of ladies in front of me turned and got chatting to them! One of the girls from Donegal was getting married a week later. There was a mother visiting her daughter, who was originally from Meath and a Dublin girl and a Scottish girl. They were all good craic. The next thing whilst the band were having a break some Irish dancing school came onto the stage and did their version of the Lord of the Dance (or a smaple at least). They weren't bad, but when you're comparing them to the best (AKA Angela O'Connor and Sean) they were only fair!
At around 6ish David (a lad from Cork who I was sharing my room with) came into Rosie's and we started to have a few beers together. He convinced me that going to subicao to the Irish club was madness as the Cork game would not be on until 11:30 and we wouldn't be able to get a train home. A cab would cost a bomb and a hostel would be difficult to find not knowing the area. That was good enough for me, so we just headed off to do a tour of a few other clubs and pubs in Freo. At around 12ish I had had enough and got my Kebab and headed for the hostel.
The next day David and myself decided to go to Kings Park to have a look around. This is a massive Park in Perth. So we jumped on a train and headed into the city. The Park had some amazing views of the city and you could see over to the indian ocean from a platform tower. After the Park we headed for a bite to eat in Perh before heading back to the hostel. We must have wlaked 10 miles at least as we were both knackered. A few quite beers that night as Freo was like a ghost town on a Monday night. Rosie's didn't even open. Other places closed at 9 and 10!!!
The next day we got up and headed to Rottenest island which was about a half hour journey by boat from Freo. We were running a bit late and only got to the island for 11:30, but if I was doing it again I'd be out there at 8 or 9 as it is so beautiful. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed to the bike hire shop. It was $20 for a bike for the day so we got two of them and off we went cycling around the island. It was great fun and quite funny watching me trying to ride a bike after god knows how many years, but as they say you never forget! We got to some bay the name of which I can't think of and decided to jump in for a swim. It was only in the 20's heat wise but the sea was still lovely. Of course if you told any one in Freo you were in the sea they'd think you were mad! We got back from the island at around 5ish and met Amy and her friend in the sail and anchor for a quick drink. Amy had to head back to her uni so off they went. Me and David planned a big night out for my last night in Perth.
Bad idea. If you are catching a flight the next day do not go on a big night out. But do you think I'd learn - no. Off we went out to the university to a PJ party. This was pretty crap although it was packed with 18 year olds in their PJ's it wasn't my scene. Felt like a grandad in the place! We left their and got a taxi back to Freo and went to the bar next door to little creatures - harbourside! This was pretty good - Karoke night. We also got chatting to two guys, 1 from Newery and 1 a Kilkenny man. They were both sound and we played a few games of pool with them. It must have been 3 or 4 when I was getting potato wedges from the chippy next door to the hostel. The Kilkenny fella used to work in the chippy so we didn't have to pay for the grub - how bad.
The next morning I didn't wake until 10, so I ran down to reception to ask about the shuttle bus. It had already gone at 10 and wouldn't be going again until 11:30 arriving at the airport for 12:30 - the time of my flight. Opps. I had to get a taxi which cost me $50 but I had a good night, so what the hell! Jumped on the plane and got to Alice Springs for around 5 in the evening (after putting my time forward 1.5 hours).
I had a quite night in Alice Springs which was a good thing as little did I know I was about to embark on my best four days in Australia on the Wayward bus tour around Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon and the Olgas.
