Day 4. Another exciting day in Ghana. We got to experience a day at Ghana's technical college, Takoradi Polytechnic. We met with the Faculty and Administrators early in the day to let them know about our plans for our students. After they understood what we wanted to do, the idea was embraced with open arms and we have begun the process of establishing a exchange program between our two schools. It was nice to see and hear that they were not only willing to participate, but was as excited as we are about this opportunity. But the real impressive part of this visit was the opportunity to meet with their students. It was approx. 200-300 students in an auditorium and we had the chance to let them know about our plans and to hopefully begin the dialogue between them and our students as soon as possible. The student response was amazing...these students consider our students as their brothers and sisters and they welcomed this opportunity to interact with our students with open arms. To hear their comments and excitment about makeing this happen was really heartfelt and moved us to tears. To see these young people, sharply dressed and well-mannered, eager and willing to not just take on this opportunity, but to continue to stress the importance for this program to come to fruition. It was an awesome visit and I cannot wait for our students to connect with these students.
For the second half of the day, we went to the Ghana market and the beach. Both allowed us to really get more of a feel of being a Ghanaian citizen and to interact with the local people.
Finally at the end of the day we had the great opportunity to eat more Ghanaian home cooking with our wonderful liaison at her home. The Blog Entry Pic is showing the excellent food of Soup, Fish, Rice and Yams...yum yum. The Ghanaian people are known for their hospitality and our liaison has proven this point to be true. We have stayed at her house for two days and we have been treated royally by her and her family and we have eaten abundantly...what more could we ask for.
We have two more days to go and time is going fast. I want to make sure I take advantage of the time I have left, because this has been a life changing experience. The relationships that we have made I hope will continue to grow and flourish forever.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Amen!
