Hey guys,Hope everyone had a good christmas and new years! Time has gone quickly since I left Adelaide.... and 6 countries later we've arrived safely in London. We were welcomed with some cold weather and heaps of rain. I'll try to make it brief, I'm supposed to be doing a uni assignment that what due this week!We arrived in Bangkok around 3am to a heat wave with our heavy packs on, thinking why are we going backpacking again?! Our taxi driver had no idea where he was going so he dropped us off on a random street, which was packed with people. He then tried to rip us off but we weren't having a bar of it! We spent 3 days exploring Bangkok... it's very dirty and the people hassell you all day long. 'Buy from me', 'cheap price', 'where you go miss' (trying to get you in their tuk-tuks)! We went to the famous Floating Markets, which was definately worth a visit. Jammed packed with boats lining the small canals, with people selling anything and everything. Our organised tour started off by travelling to the Thai-Cambodian border, we had 16 people on our tour. We already had our visas so didn't get ripped off like some. We meet our Cambodian guide on the otherside and we then had a bus ride from hell! I'm a country girl... but this was the bumpest and dustiest 5 hour ride I've ever taken and we only travelled approx. 170km!! Once in Siem Reap, we spent 2 days sightseeing Angkok Wat, many various temples and visiting a floating village. We then travelled onto Phnom Penh, where we visited the Killing Fields and the Genodice Museum. It was quite disturbing knowing the astrocities that occurred in these places. Toni was a little sick by this point and all I seemed to be doing was falling over the many uneven surfaces! Cambodia was a great place to visit, the people were nice and the food was great. We weren't brave enough to try the bbq'd spiders..... they were so huge! We were finally getting used to the squat toilets, although I nearly slipped over on many occassions!Next was HCMC (Saigon).... the border crossing was simple but long. We visited the Cu Chi Tunnels, The War Remnants Museum and had a homestay in the Mekong Delta. You spend most of your time watching out for motorbikes or you'll get squashed! We spent Christmas Day in a park, sitting on some beautiful grass in the sun..... then this policeman starting blowing his whistle and yelling at us.... we weren't allowed on the grass! So we decided to go to the pub before getting one of our many overnight trains. Only 6 of us were continuing on the rest of the tour with a crappy English guide who could even speak the language. It was very frustrating and probably should have done it on our own. Next stop was beachside town of Nha Trang, where we met 2 aussie soldiers and had a good drinking session on buckets (cheap large cocktails). They became our break from the tour, it was quite boring unfortunately. The 2 english girls decided to fly everywhere instead of catching overnight trains so we got left with 2 annoying english guys and a useless tour leader!I got some pants and shirts made in Hoi An at one of the hundreds of tailors there. In Hue we visited the Citadel and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) including the Khe San military base and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. We made our way to Hanoi by overnight train on New Years Eve..... you could drink and do whatever you wanted so it wasn't too bad. We saw the Water Puppets and Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. We took an overnight trip to beautiful Halong Bay and cruised on a traditional 'junk boat'. We went kayaking and visited a cave, the whole area was gorgeous. I managed to take an injury while walking on a concrete pier.... I slipped into the water fully clothed with my backpack, grazing my calf and ripping my toes open on the cockles. It wasn't pretty, blood everywhere and no first aid kit on the boat! Yes... we have some pictures somewhere! We took a short flight to Vientiane, the capital of Laos and stayed for 3 days. We mostly relaxed as I was injured and drank cheap beer. We visited Buddha Park, it was pretty cool, loads of strange statutes. Laos was really clean and very friendly people. Once back in Bangkok we went on an overnight trip to the River Kwai. We payed our respects at the allied war cemetary and visited the Death Railway. We even had a ride along it.... it kind of bounces along, you feel like it's going to derail.... was quite scary at times. We stayed in a floating hotel, went elephant riding and bamboo rafting. On the way back we visited a Tiger Temple, where you can get up close and have a photo taken. The drivers were crazy throughout our trip and our top speed was 155km/hr in a minibus.... it gets a little hairy at times and they use the horn every two seconds! It gets very annoying, they're in so much of a hurry to get nowhere in particular! We spent the last 3 days of our trip in Dubai, UAE. We did a 4x4 Safari in the sand dunes, it was great. You also have dinner and watch some belly dancing. We visited various malls, souqs and went into the Ski Dubai Snow Park for some fun. The whole city is under construction so it's a bit of a mess really..... some buildings are quite cool but it wasn't a very friendly place. So I hope I didn't bore you..... there was alot to cover.... we had some good laughs and adventures over the past month. Write a message on my board! Goodbye for now, keep in touchMegsyxx
