Amsterdam! What a great time we've had here. We arrived Monday morning after our great overnight ferry that we had a lovely cabin on and made our way to our hostel, a houseboat on one of the canals called Vita Nova! Was great, nice and warm in the cold weather and had a great breakfast there.
The first day we spent exploring all the snow covered streets and canals and visited the Van Gogh Museum, which houses hundreds of his works and tells his tragic story very well. It was fascinating and some of the pieces were beautiful. That night we had dinner at a great student restaurant called Skeks and then went to explore the Red Light District, was something else! Such a juxtaposition with the surroundings.
Yesterday we went to the Anne Frank house in the morning to avoid the crowds. It was really well done with a mix of video and written exhibits and seeing the space that the family lived and ofcourse the famous diaries. Very very sad. After a traditional Dutch pancake lunch we did some more exploring of the city, which is very walkable, even in the snow. We visited Vondel Park and went to a few markets. That night after a rest and dinner at the houseboat it was back to the Red Light District for more fun!
