Rurrenabaque is the base for wildlife and jungle tours in the Amazon basin in Northern Bolivia. We just returned from a 3 day Pampas tour where we did everything from Alligator feeding.. to pirranah fishing.. to swimming with pink dolphins. Truly unique experience and once again we ate like kings ( including our Pirranah catch one night!). We had a fun group of 2 other Aussies and 2 hilarious blokes from Basque who kept us in stitches despite the distinct language barrier! We stayed in a Robinson Crusoe style tree house colony by the yacuma river and made full use of the hammocks on a daily basis! Our guide Adelis was very knowledgeable re: native fauna and safe practices, so I hesitated less when it came to picking up the wild Anaconda or swimming with the dolphins a few feet from the thousands of alligators/ pirranahs in the river. In theory, swimming near the dolphins is safe as they fend off the alligators ..but when you see the pictures of the size of these badboys, you?ll realise why not everyone opted for a river swim :)
Chilling back at rurre now, prepping for Jungle trek tomorrow..
