Dear friends,
Roatan was great - we spent almost 6 days chilling!
But we are lucky - after nice comes nice. At least for us right now: Thursday we arrived in Tegucigalpa. We visited Claudia, a friend who is spending 3 years there with KfW. We were enjoying her comfortable home and some pleasures of being in a capital. Went to a real supermarket (!imagine that is rare!), a viewpoint and went to swing our hips to some Salsa rhythms during the night. There we met another friend - Lena - we know from our studies in Maastricht.
And we are even luckier. Claudia could take off some days and joined us to Nicaragua. She lived here for 2 years and knows a lot of people...so we get/got some insider tips ;). One of her friends, Jorge, went to Managua on Saturday and gave us a ride. We continued on to Granada, a beautiful colonial city with tropical climate, located on the shore of the Lago Nicaragua, the probably largest lake in Central America. Some other friends of Claudia took us out at night. We went dancing at the lake´s shore...that is Latin America.
Today we discovered Granada - enjoy colonial houses (fotos), climb ancient churches and enjoy the view. Finally had a typical snack at the main square: Yuka root with cabbage and fried pig skin - not our new favorite, but funny to try ;).
Tomorrow on to climb the closest vulcano and enjoy the artwork at Masaya...
Thinking about you all.
Yours,
Maarten & Anna
