Hello everyone and sorry it has taken so long...I could make excuses about slow internet connection or lack of facilities but the truth is I've been getting used to the beach life during the day and having too much fun at night. It's easier said than done to drag yourself away from a sunset like the one in the picture (that's the place I've just spent 12 days!) to sit in an internet cafe!!
Since I last left a blog entry in Singapore, I've been having what could probably qualify for the best few weeks of my travelling experience so far. I have completely fallen in love with Thailand, but a large part of it is definitely the people who I have been travelling with for the last few weeks. Days consist of lying on the beach eating great food, then we always watch the sunset, followed by chilling on someone's porch or on the beach. Life really doesn't get any better than this! Sorry if that makes you really jealous...the pictures probably will even more so, so I apologise in advance. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the pictures work after this!
After Singapore, I made my way by bus to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. I spent the day there and visited the KL Tower, even though it was a bit cloudy. It was an amazing city and I was a bit gutted I didn't have more time in Malaysia, although glad I'd made the decision to rush up to Thailand in time for the Full Moon Party. I will need to go back down to Malaysia for a couple of days soon to get a new visa though so I'm looking forward to that.
I flew the next day from Kuala Lumpur up to Phuket in Thailand, leaving early the next morning for Ko Samui and onward to Koh Phangan on the 7th (Full Moon took place on the 10th). The next day I got chatting to a girl on the beach...turns out that was a good decision as I have been with her and various others she had met in with since, and our group has grown and grown! We spent a great few days on the beach and at pool and beach parties in the run-up to Full Moon. The girl I originally met, Sezen, is from Amsterdam. Also in our Koh Phangan group were 2 canadian guys, Tyler and Shane, an English girl (Pippa) and 2 Welsh guys (Andrew and Chris). The atmosphere in Koh Phangan during Full Moon was buzzing, everyone flocks to the island just to party and on FUll Moon night they even come from nearby islands...resulting in 15,000 people on one beach! It really has to be seen to be believed! It was a great night, we all covered our bodies in facepaints (I had a Scotland flag of course!) and headed to the beach. Even after sunrise people were still dancing, onyl giving up in the early hours of the afternoon. I'm so glad I experienced it, but it turned out to be completely the right decision because I ended up meeting all the great people that I'm still with. Everything always seems to work out for the best!
From Koh Phangan, our group (minus the Canadian boys) headed for Koh Tao. The atmosphere on this island was completely different, with most people heading there to complete a scuba diving qualification. It was such a chilled out place and one I've fallen completely in love with for this reason. Along the beach there are restaurants and bars where we would sit and chill all day in the sun. In the evening (after watching the most beautiful sunsets from the same spot!) we headed to bars that are right on the beach. There were beanbags and comfy chairs where everyone sat being entertained by fire dancers...these guys were amazing and so much better than the ones we saw in Fiji! For these reasons, it was extremely hard to leave Koh Tao...every day we woke up we would say "We'll leave tomorrow instead" until eventually we realised we HAD to leave and move on! Some of us have gone our seperate ways though...the 2 English guys, Chris and James, have headed for Oz as have our 2 English mates, Chris and ANdrew. We also left behind the Dutch guys and a group of Swedish girls. My goodbye to Chris and Andrew was the hardest of the past 7 months, without a doubt. they were great fun but also genuinely nice guys. We all miss having them around a lot!
On the 24th Pippa, Sezen, Kate (from Canada), Alex (from England) and I got the night boat (slightly scary!) to Railay where we chilled for a day before heading to Koh Phi Phi to meet Swedish Alex. The 6 of us are staying together and have already bumped into a few people we met in Ko Tao. We haven't done much so far since arriving yesterday as Pip and I are feeling a bit under the weather, but watched an amazing sunset from a mountain viewpoint last night and plan to do the same tonight. Also planning to do a boat trip at some point to "The Beach" from the film of the same name.
Anyway, will get started on uploading these pictures and hopefully they will work!
Love to everyone
