Hello everyone again!
I hope you are all well! I am now in Cambodia but I thought I would use some spare time to update my blog with my final adventures of Australia.
Don't worry you will find out about Cambodia in another entry.
So I last left you all when I was burning up in the 42 degrees of Alice Springs. The next day I was up at 6 (positively a lie-in compared to other mornings) for my next tour guide to pick me up.
There a few people from my last tour on this one so a I knew a few people as we boarded to new mini bus and headed north. As we were heading up away from the centre I thought it might get a little cooler, even though we were heading towards the equator. And I was right ....the temperature did drop... a few degrees and the humidity...oh the humidity!!! It made the slightly cooler temperature of 36 degrees feel more like 50 and we were dripping with sweat the moment we stepped outside the air-conditioned mini bus.
But, oh well, the adventures must continue! And continue we did, into the depths of the out back!
Our first stop, and the one I was most looking forward to, was the Devil's Marbles. A selection of rounded rocks that seem to have been precariously balanced on top of eachother. It was like walking through the set of the Flintstones in Bedrock!
Here we were told about the Aboriginal Mimi spirits that creep out and play games with children and then take them back into the rocks never to be seen again! Pretty creepy! Though you don't have to worry I am safe and in a cafe right now, not writing this from the centre of a stone!
After that we had a long drive to our campsite, that was...well....a little rustic shall we say. As dinner was being made the owner brought out a snake. Granted it was only small but it was one he had found, NOT a pet, but he said it was ok, he was planning to raise it! Needless to say I decided not to hold it, especially when I needed both my hands to swat away the ever increasing mosquitoes. We quickly had our dinner and raced into our tent for sanctury.
The next morning after packing up we were on the road again, singing Disney songs at the top of our voices (No "Let it Go"I'm afraid).
We had about 600km to travel so again it was a lot of driving. SO as a result as every good driver knows, you need lots of toilet breaks! But we were in the outback and the risk of going off and into the bush when nature called and actually returning was seeming a little unlikely. So we end up stopping at lots of shops where travellers traditionally leave something. These places are filled with old ID cards, clothes, flip flops, you name it they have it!
Before long we got to our final campsite for this part of the journey. Where we were delighted to here that there were crocodiles (that could kill us) toads (that could kill us) snakes (that could kill us) and spiders (that could kill us). Other than that it was beautiful and a place to at one with nature. We even went for a croc search in the night. We saw a few glowing ees but that was it. So I survived another night in the outback!
Our final day before we joined another group included a stop at a waterfall, where there were no crocs! We caught a little boat there and had a quick walk to get there but it was soooo refreshing to jump in the water and clmb under the tumberling waterfall!
Before long we were on our way to Darwin and back in a city.
And it is there that I will end this entry. The next will talk about my final few days down under.
Enjoy the photos!
