Wow I can't believe that my time in the states is over. 2 and a half months have flown by! But it is time to move on! but first a brief summary of what I have done since my last entry.
I last wrote just after arriving in Washington but had yet to do the sight seeing. 5 years ago I visited but there was still so much to do and the best bit...everything is free in New York! Well the tourist stuff.
So over the following few days I went to the US Capitol where all the politic are discussed by at least 3 different people who represent each state. I could explain more but to be honest it would be probably quite boring, I would get it wrong and my head is struggling to sort out everything I learnt anyway!Basically they make big descision there!
I also visited the botanical gardens and the Air and Space Museum which was AMAZING! You can touch rock from the moon, see rockets that have gone to space. You can even see the first ever plane to fly the Kitty Hawk made by the Wright Brothers. I was really excited to see this just because I remember studying it when I was in Year 3.
I visited the Art Museum which had Monets Waterlily pond with bridge painting which I know anyone who goes to Park Mead will recognise.
I also went on a long walk around all the monuments they have to honour the presidents and memorials for different wars.
Washington Memorial- first president
Lincoln Memorial - Abolished Slavery
Jefferson Memorial - Signed the declaration of independence
Rooservelt Memorial - Helped get America out of the depression
My favourite part of my visit to Washington though has to be watching the ice hocky match between the Bruins and Capitols. As you will be able to see from the photos I was estatic to be there and loved watching the game. Unfortunately the Bruins lost 5-4 in extra time, despite being up 4-2 after the 2nd 3rd.
I was also able to visit some friends from camp in the area before catching the bus and heading back to NYC.
I have now spent my last few days in the city relaxing and getting ready for the next leg of my journey...China! I am, of course, nervous, but I am also extremely excited to see a completely different country and culture.
I have no idea when my next blog will be, the wifi maybe good but with a 19 hour journey ahead of me with 2 flight and the days being flipped upside down with a 12 hour difference I may simply get complete disorintated and forget how to use technology!
Anyway wishing everyone well from both myself and Monkey!
Cheerio!
