Todays itinerary was a boat ride over to the tourist village of Bellagio, and then further down the lake to the Motoguzzi (motorbike) Museum at Mandello del Lario - and as luck had it the first day of the 97th International Motoguzzi Festival.
The view from the boat as we left Varenna was incredibly picturesque - the image you see in most of the postcards, and the boat ride lovely and relaxing. Bellagio was very touristy - like Parnell on steroids.
The word Bellagio means beautiful in Italian. We only had a brief stop here due to the ferry timings. Just long enough to walk around the village and have a brief look in a few shops before we headed off further down the lake.
Mandello del Lario was motorbike heaven - an amazing collection of bikes at the museum, and lots more at the festival continually arriving. We were incredibly lucky with our timing - we had planned to visit the museum but didn't know about the festival until we saw some posters in the street the day after we arrived. As well as some incredibly old bikes we also saw the new Motoguzzi model that hasn't been released to the market yet.
A quick stop at the supermarket to pick up supplies for dinner; followed by some down time listening to music at the festival and then we headed back on the train.
April: The boat trip was awesome.I got a boysenberry gelato that was really nice and the motorbikes were cool.
Sarah: The different types of motorbikes were interesting.
I enjoyed looking at the oil paintings in Bellagio.
Scott: I saw an orange motorbike that I really liked.
