Puy du fou, a theatrical outdoor establishment where history comes to life in the form of shows about significant historical events and stories was a planned highlight on our itinerary.
The costumes, animals and sets are true to the period, and the visual and sound effects stunning. All the shows had elements of suprise that kept us amazed and wowed.
We watched 5 shows:
A mythical falconry tale with lots of amazing birds
the sword in the stone/knights of the round table,
gladiator fights at the roman colosseum, the Vikings,
and lastly a late night show of music and lights set on a lake with water affects
The first show and our favourite was the bird show - with 200 birds swooping overhead, it was amazing.
The music was dramatic, and the affects neat. The actress was also pretty hot (according to Darryl). It was enthralling and the birds swooped incredibly low across the audience. Darryl's head got brushed by the wings of an eagle.
Kate ducked a few times - especially as the vultures flew right over our heads (Darryl doesn't know why as she's almost the shortest out of all of us).
The Vikings show had ships appearing from beneath the water, buildings set on fire, deer and pigs being headed by villagers. Also an actor that disappeared and was replaced by a dove kept us guessing as to how they had managed that.
The sword in the stone had an amazing lake that partially drained during the performance to reveal the Knights of the round table. Some sword fighting and a levetating table were also entertaining.
The roman colosseum was incredible - it gave us some idea of what went on at that type of event in Roman times, which will be interesting to put into context at the real colosseum when we get to Rome. We saw Chariot races, fights to the death (with quite gory affects) plus the presence of a tiger, a lion, cheeters and lionesses and an hyena, it certainly was a sight to behold.
The night show was hard to describe actors dressed in glowing costumes glided across the lake playing musical instruments and singing opera. Classical french music played with water fountains rising and falling in time to the music with different coloured lights for affects.
In summary the day was incredible. Well worth the effort to fit in the trip here that was slightly out of the way.
April - Wow. Good thing the camera was working again.
Scott- I liked the Eagles because they fly over your head and sometimes touch you. There were 10 frogs in one of the streams - one of them was really fat.
Sarah - it was awesome.
