Hey guys, well I thought I'd post a blog just to let you all know about what's going on and our plans, yes we do have plans!Well the plan was to get to Vientiane in order to get our visa's then make our way up to Hanoi, I saw that it takes 24 hours on a bus to get to there, and with Laos not having made much of an impression on us (me mostly) we thought we'd give another week and try and love the place! We got to Vientiane and put our passports in late so it was 24 hours until we got the visa for Vietnam, in the meantime we had decided to go South Laos and cross at 4000 Islands and see the dolphins while we were there, thus traveling up through Cambodia and into Vietnam. Some friends are on their way south of Vietnam now so we're hoping to bump into them! Out of all the places in Laos Vientiane has been my favorite, there's really not much to do there and all the bars and stuff close at 11pm so its quiet. Yeah and the lightweight can get her mandatory 10 hours sleep. We did all the sightseeing in one day and spent the 2nd day waiting for our visa by the pool at a local hotel, nice and posh. We also met some girls, we keep bumping into along the way, they're nice (Jess and Cat), very English and smart (go to Oxford and had a few beers and a catch up.As per usual in Miles and Jones style we stroll up to the bus station at 7pm on Friday wanting a nice bus, instead we were lumbered onto a local bus and sat next to some freak (most of the Asian men just sit and stare at me, for long periods of time and freak me out, its just that their not really used to seeing 'westerners') Check you out you big headed cow. At one point I thought I'd left my tiara on and that was why he was looking but I hadn't and he couldn't possibly no I was a Princess without it so I was safe! What a complete knobhead. We were totally unprepared for the journey (note to self always ask how long the journey would take), we had no water or food and I was wearing shorts, so I was sticking to the seats! We were on the bus for 6 hours, and didn't arrive at Th Kheak until 1.30am, great. We found a tuktuk who took us too many closed/full guesthouse and then finally found us one, the owner saw us coming big time and charged 80,000 kip (ok its only 4 quid but still) and it had added extras, a bath tub, and cockroaches. We held our wee in and got into bed. Also another note to self, when a guesthouse has a note up on the back of the door saying "guests using the room temporarily should note take longer than 2 hours" DO NOT STAY THERE. Aaron winging in the background that he wanted to sleep with the light on (what protection is a light going to give us if a cockroach climbs on board?) Yeah I wanted to see the time on the clock I wasn't scared at all (big manly grunts) so we got 5 hours kip, we wanted to be out of there ASAP! We didn't even wash due to the cockroach setting up home in the sink and set off for the bus station at 7.30am wanting a bus out of there. We didn't get one until 10am, very annoying so we set up camp on the bench next to some woman selling dead cats or something. It was another local bus and we had plenty of water knowing it would probably take about 6 hours, we hadn't eaten breaky 'cos they only had noodles! The local bus is very close to the bone, it was sooooo dirty, it was minging, they stop every couple of hours to let the locals on with food, trying to sell you kebabs and deep fried locusts (didn't try either of them, we had Pringles! The highlight of the journey was when we pulled over and these guys tried to put some live goats in the hold (our bags were there so we were having a silent fit!) BUT then they decided to put them on the roof?yeah oh my lordy lord, the guy passed the lead up and just dragged them onto the roof. We thought they had killed them so we were vegetarians for the rest of the journey (there's no meat in Pringles! we read the contents.)When we finally arrives in Pakse we had been on the bus for 8 hours (4 oh which were meat free) and thankfully found out that the goats were alive and just in transit! Jack I think you missed the bit out were they put the goats back in transit on the top of our friggin Tuk Tuk right next to my bag, which was now smelling of Goat Diaoreah. So we topped the day off with a much needed shower and Indian (Chicken Missalla, (wot??? well the goats were fine, I'm a carnivore again!)Pakse is pretty quiet really, the locals are great and the kids are loads of fun, we're leaving to go to 4000 Islands tomorrow for some dolphin action.
