Alvin and I left England at 8am with Qatar airways via Doha (6hr flight) to come to Phuket in Thailand.
Our first flight was nearly empty so there was lots of space for people to move around and lie down across chairs. The staff on Qatar air are so friendly and helpful. An example I can give of this is that I saw an old lady lie across the seats to have a nap and a stewardess came along, undid a blanket and wrapped the old lady up and tucked her in. If that isn't great service I don't know what is! Even the desert meal on the flight tasted like an actual sponge pudding with custard, and not the standard taste you get on flights.
The only thing I didn't like about them was their very dated planes. Both flights were very uncomfortable and the arm rests only came 2/3 of the way up on the first flight and on the second flight they didn't at all. I now have a very sore back.
We only got to see the inside of Doha airport for a stop over but it looked very lush inside. To buy a brick of Marlboro was 24 US dollars which made me happy, and at Burger King they didn't sell any of their burger with bacon.
I was scared to offend people here by taking off my jumper and exposing my arms as I wasn't sure if that was classed as OK in Doha (as I know in a lot of Arab countries a woman should be very modestly dressed) so I stayed sweltering just in case.
After a 2 hour stop over and having to run to the gate as it was last call we got on the plane again for 6 hours to go to Phuket.
When we got to immigration, the huge room was merely a sea of people with not much space to move, even at the back. This was probably due to the fact they had 5 long haul flights turn up around the same time. Alvin and I just decided to go have a cigarette instead of trying to battle through the people straight away.
I was so excited to see the door to go through to smoke seemed to lead to the great outdoors as we hadn't been in fresh (haha) air in about 17 hours. Much to our disappointment though, it was just a smokey room with the added stuffiness and heat from the Thai air.
It took us an hour or so to get through customs. There were about 6 baggage reclaim belts and yet none were being used. Much like the previous room, there in front of us was a sea, only this time it was with hundreds of bags and suitcases as apposed to human bodies. Luckily enough we found our bags quite easily and made our way to the exit.
