Monday 3rd
Back in London's Gatwick after a short flight from Bologna. The next couple of days were pretty cruisey with a train trip to Winchmore Hill (my birthplace) on Tuesday spending a pleasant couple of hours having a drink and lunch in the King's Head where my Dad used to drink and then a train back to Tottenham. (Getting pretty good at London's train/bus/subway system now.) Winchmore Hill has definitely moved upmarket since 2001 when I last visited with many cafes, antique & Bric a Brac shops, estate agents and restaurants. The prices have moved up as well and a 1 bedroom attached her is circa stg250k and for a 4 bedroom free standing house with a garden you can pay up to STG2mill.
Out that night to a play at the National Theatre on the Southbank. "The Kitchen" - well acted and choreographed but a pretty thin/weird plot or storyline. The next day Wednesday we went to the Jeffrye Museum near Hoxton - had an interesting display of middle class living rooms from the 17th Century to the present. That night out for a Tapas meal with Craig,Ivan,Malcolm & Suzanne with plenty of Chilean red!
Thursday we left Heathrow on Virgin Atlantic for a long (10.75hours) flight to San Franscisco.
