We started the morning by swimming in the sulphur lake which dominates the small town. It was surprisingly cold considering the lake is surround by sand that heats up to extreme temperatures during the day. None the less it was amazing to be swimming in the desert and was a very cool place to relax until the main event of the day- the sand dunes tour.
About 4 o´clock we were picked up by an 8 seater dune buggy and taken straight to the largest hills to be hurled down. The first few mounds were exactly like rollercoasters and it was quite an adreanaline rush as the buggy attempted to go up and down sand dunes you would think would not be possible or safe. After 15 mins of tearing down the sand dunes we stopped for the first of three Sand Boarding attempts.
I tried to stand up on this attempt but the board were made with velcro straps and it was impossible to sand board with these boards. Becky had the right idea and laid down and pelted down to the bottom of the dunes with a load scream. After this the rest of the group followed Beckys example and shot down the hill with great speed and a lot more enjoyment. At the end of the tour we watched the sunset on the sand dunes, which was a bit cloudy but the night before we got a great view of the sunset so we were not to disapointed.
The following day we set off for Arequipa but we had a bit of a bad start to the day as my small backpack got stolen. I got out of a Taxi to go check the bus times, while becky waited by the car. A strange man came up to Becky and started to talk to her asking her random questions in spanish. While this happened another person got in the other side and took my black bag. Thankfully nothing important got stolen, so we just counted our blessings and realised it could have been worse!
