Hi All
A quick update from us!! firstly sorry for the lack of photos we are currently lacking in any high speed internet but promise that when we get access to it we will pop some photos up!
Well since the last blog we have yet again by travelling around East Africa! Bec got home from Nairobi in the new Land Rover. It is not a luxury ride but does do very well over the pot holed "roads". Mike continued his work with the sports department and Bec spent a few productive few days drafting a training manual ready for translation. Having various meetings and planning for community outreach visits. Bec still has to wait for paperwork regarding her physio registration but hopefully that will arrive soon.
We then got a matatu (Small mini bus thing) with 14 seats and normally 20 people and some chickens in it!! to the Uganda border where we then got a bike (yes a bike with all our bags!) across the border, to yet another matatu, a checky stop over to lovely Jinja and then on to Kampala to meet the Wheel for the World team. For those of you who don't know Wheel for the World provide wheelchairs/walking aids for disabled people in developing countries, they have close links with Icfem. It is through Wheels that we came here.
We then started 6 days of wheelchair distribution seeing about 140 people with amazing stories, that really make you think how lucky we are to have the NHS! Little kids who are just so grateful for help definitely makes the fact we are miles from family and friends and the lack of access to world cup football (in Mikes case) and Chocolate (in Becs case) worth while!
We also got to see Will and Gemma which was very nice, had a great meal out and watched the football!!It was so nice seeing friends from both the UK wheels team and uni-what a great week!! And such rewarding work.
We will blog again soon!
Do keep in touch we love getting emails. Our address in case anyone is of the pen and paper type is
