Day5/6
Day 5 we moved hotels from Mintevideo st. to Paraguay av. First impressions was the room was whilst slightly bigger and has a bath and toilet which you no longer have to sit one foot in the shower cubicle in, it is not what we would expect for a 3 star hotel. No free wifi, and breakfast is chaotic, front door open to public and air conditioning frankly disappointing and falling to pieces.
Yesterday we officially started our Gap tour (Southern Highlights) first day met up with other participants, all seem nice people, small group of 7 including the CEO , (Chief Experience Officer).
Last night we went to a Steak Restaurant which whilst the food was ok, it came out very expensive and the whole evening dragged somewhat towards the end, I think a more smaller less touristy area would have served us better food and come in cheaper, but it was a nice way to meet the people on the trip. Actually looking forward to a steak free day today. Too much of a good thing.
Today (Day6) we did a city tour which encompassed going around in a minibus o look at some of the sites of Buenos Aires, got a couple of pictures of a few things but nothing really to write home about for the first part, then went to La Boca, where it was the more tourist trap side of Buenos Aires and the more poorer side of the city. There where the original houses built by immigrants from corrugated steel and painted bright colours from paint left over from the docklands and ships. It was a nice quick visit to this area, lots of crafty, arty and knick-knacks on offer, where we picked up a piece of art as a souvenir. Finally walked over to Recolata which is a famous cemetery in Argentina as it is full of ornate crypts, tombs and mausoleums. Quite a contrast to the slum side of the city, it seems more wealth is spent on the dead than the living in the poorest part of the city. Feet hurting now and tired, will be uploading this when we next get some free wifi! Tomorrow is an early start 6:45 where we fly to Iguassu falls that Borders Argentina and Brazil and Uruguay. More planes, buses and the like to endure, mind you better than more time at the Waldorf... Mike and Kelly
