Day 1.
Arrived at Buenos Aires, Argentina first impressions were it's a lot like Gran Canaria as we sat on the bus to the city centre. Arrived and impressions soon changed to thoughts of Benidorm an endless metropolis of high rise buildings that seem to defy the pull of gravity! Language is a barrier as neither of us speak the lingo which appears to be Spanish. So reverted to the English ways of communicating abroad, speak slowly, repeat often and get louder and more irrate with each syllable and point and gestate wildly. So far so good booked a bus from airport to city and got lost trying to flag a taxi for 10 to 15 minutes returning back to bus station where some concerned locals took pity and helped us book a mini cab direct to hotel (result). Hotel looks great online and in the brouchure but once here rooms seem small pokey but clean and comfortable. We have a window which appears to be 100% air con unit no visible view but a noisy refrigerator which does the job well enough. It's hot hot hot!. So far we have ventured out to find food and like the movie Inception that we watched on the plane on the way here (we don't really have a clue as to what is going on). Jet lag and bank holiday meant finding food was of 3 choices: a pre-packed sarnie from a dodgy corner shop, a pizza place or McDonalds. We were proud that we opted for the pizza place and good choice too with good local wine and food. (although McD's might be the place for tea). Tomorrow will be a new day, things open and hopefully things to go see and do, for now we are two very weary travellers that did 35 mins in a taxi, 2h 45m on trains, 15 hours on planes and 35m on a bus and finally a further 15mins in a mini cab just to get to hotel. Very tiring!! Local time 3 hours behind gmt so small time shift to contend with. We called home to both sets of folks and good to see home at both ends waving back at two weary but content travellers. Today might be a write off to get back on track with the journey here, not much really to be done until the city re-opens following the bank holiday. Just a bit of exploring on our own and then to join the organised trip with Gap in 4 days time. Excited weary and happy we have done it. (Well done us) will check in when we can on here, as Internet wifi connection in hotel seems up and down. Mike & Kel
