Hi everyone its Mike writing this blog entry, lets hope it dosent delete itself like the last one did, so here goes.
We are in L.A at the moment and we arrived on sunday at about 4:30 in the afternoon, we took the greyhound down from San Fran which took 7 and a half hours but wasnt actually as bad as it sounds went pretty quick and we both slept for the first few hours. When we arrived we had a short walk to the hostel, only a few blocks, but felt like a lot longer with 20 kg backpacks on. Hostel is really nice and we checked into our room and then went to the shops up the road to get some supplies and food for dinner, we made burritos which was a nice change from cheeseburgers and hotdogs and it was about the first lot of vegies ive eatin in a long time. After dinner we went up to the lounge of the hostel where we planned to have a few quiet beers and watch the free comedy show, but as usuall it turned into a few to many especially when we met a lot of aussies and even some eagles supporters. One of the guys went to Duncraig high His name is Jed Horseman, dont know if u remember him Roger but he said he remembered you.
Next day we were up bright and early, well 10am, and we headed out for our walking tour of Beverly Hills and Bel-air which was made a little more difficult because of the night before but after a few Ks we felt good and the tour was very interesting and a little depressing for Bek as she relised we will never live in a place like that, as we knew anyway, but all up was a good tour and some much needed exercise for us. We finished the tour on Rodeo drive and went a diner around the corner and had....... you guessed it, hotdogs and cheese fries, so much for healthy. As we left the diner the girls, Bek and a kiwi girl Sara which we met on the tour wanted to go to a famous restaurant called Ivy and get some photos of paparazzi but a few metres down the road as we were walking we saw what looked like paparazzi n we asked who they were waiting for and it was everyones favourite, Paris Hilton, so the decided we should wait with them n try get a photo, by the time she came out, an hour later!! there was a circus of about 50 paparazzi n heaps of tourists that had stopped to have a sticky beak aswell. The girls were very exited.
After our marathon steakout we came back to the hostel n had some pasta for dinner n went on a limo tour which took us to a few pubs and gave us free drinks inbetween all for $25 which was good, there were about 50 people and 2 limos so was a good night.
Tuesday we hiked up to the hollywood sign, and i really mean hiked, it was terrible took about an hour and was all up hill but got some good photos which we will put up when we get a computer with usb ports. Got back from that at about 2:30 and rushed off to see a screening of a tv show called back to you, we were going to be in the audience and after paying $35 to get to fox studois, 2 hours early as we had been told, they tell us that its been moved to the next day! So we came straight back, $70 out of pocket for a nice taxi tour, NOT HAPPY. went up to Manns chinese theatre and Kodak theatre instead and looked at the hand and footprints in the cement and the freaks dressed up as movie characters out the front. Had some dinner at the hostel and watched the open mike night which was a few different guys playing music so that was cool, and free which is always good. Went for a late night pizza run at about midnight just up the street and had massive slices which just ruined all our good exercise from the day, but still tasted GOOD!
Today we havnt done heaps went to fix our greyhound tickets to San Diago for friday and went to the Ripleys Believe it or not museum and saw some weird stuff like two headed baby skeletons and a shrunken head just to name a few. Shane Cownie who went to uni with bek and school with some of the boys is arriving soon and coming to Santa Monica beach and Venice Beach with us tomorrow so that will be cool.
Just got back to the hostel now and doin some washing before we go to the Lakers playoff game, Thats right the L.A Lakers got tickets off the net for just under 100 which is good considering its the finals so we go to that at bout 5:30 game starts at 7:30.
Better go n help Bek with the washing but we hope you are all well and we will be in touch soon.
Mike and Bek.
Hi Everyone,
Bek here finishing up what Mike left off! The Lakers game was awesome. Everything we expected and more. My favourite part was the national anthem. The whole crowd got into it and i got shivers at the peak of the song...Mike was disgusted at me when I started singing along with the subtitles hehe. A guy called Coby or Kobe was awesome. BBall fans would know who he is but he is supposed to be the best player in the league at the moment and everytime he got his hands on the ball the crowd chanted "MVP MVP" (most valuable player). Mike explained him to me as the "Chris Judd" of basketball.
We went to the game with Shane and another guy at our hostel Nathan. Nathan had a convertible so we got a ride with him. it was fun but quite scary since we are all from Perth and they drive on the other side of the road here. We were also in downtown with the roof down....I got them to lift it up again quickly as its a dodgy area!
The next day we got the free shuttle to Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach. We took the token Baywatch/OC photos on the life saving towers on the beach. We hung out with a guy we named Adelaide...he was from Adelaide and a guy called Hugo from England. We were supposed to go to a show that night but since we rely on public transport we didnt make it in time. Instead we made our dinner out of leftovers and went to see Hating Sarah Marshall. It was really funny and the theatre was in this giant dome and you got to choose what seats you wanted and everything. they also introduced the movie and told us what to expect!
stay tuned for San Diego!
love bek and Mike
