Another relaxed start, shrouded in the white hangings of the bed, with the sound of rain audible on our terrace. We breakfasted and took the shuttle bus into Ubud, about a 20 minute drive, at a pleasantly relaxed pace. We wandered the bustling streets on our way to the monkey forest, passing lots of shops selling sparkly and shiny things when Bob did very well to resist on the first pass.
We entered the monkey forest and were suddenly enveloped in leafy surroundings which sporadically shook, producing single or entire families of monkeys. The inquisitive little critters paraded around all over the temples and their surroundings, snacking on kumara, grooming each other whilst perched jauntily on an ancient statue and occasionally stalking tourists searching for a hidden morsel of food or a trinket which wasn't firmly attached. We mimbled around the atmospheric water temples, closely watched by a series of furry onlookers, one of whom took a particular interest in Bobs hair, in between scratching his behind and licking a railing...
We wandered back through Ubud, and succumbed to some of the sparkly shops, as well as purchasing a bulk pack of frangipani hair clips, unaware that the next stall had them in single packs...
We watched the world bustle by for a bit, glad of a sit down in the sticky heat, then headed through the market to our shuttle bus back to the hotel. We spent the rest of the day reading, planning and relaxing by the pool before I worked up the conviction to go for an incredible run through the paddy fields in the gathering dusk. The pool afterwards was serene and I slept very well afterwards.
