We woke with dry mouths from the AC and caught up with the only English Channel on the TV, BBC world, to see that we had got out of Sydney just in time as it was continuing to be ravaged by the storm. We headed to breakfast in the pretty little courtyard which was fruit salad for Bob and Nasi Goreng for me. When in Bali...
We headed into town, dropping in to sign some forms at Bali Scuba School in readiness for the next day before heading to the beach. We realised that our naive navigation had missed out a huge proportion of the town the night before but after bumbling along for a good while we replaced the ramshackle sidewalks for sand and came out on a palm fringed, sandy beach.
The sun was fierce as we darted across the hot sand to the waves and sauntered along looking jealously at the people draped on the array of sun loungers offered by each waterfront establishment. We ignored numerous offers of sun loungers but eventually succumbed to join a very nice beach club for the day, where we sat back under our parasol and watched the surfers, jet skiers and locals crashing around in the waves.
We were brought an array of drinks and after a few hours ordered lunch which turned out to be the boniest snapper I have ever eaten, but it was well worth the effort and included in our 'membership'.
We returned to our parasol and watched the thunder clouds roll in as the tide disappeared. When Bob had finished her third book of the day we wandered back through town to the hotel. Sheet lightening sporadically lit up my open top shower as we got ready to go out but no rain fell and we were soon in a cab heading to a nice pizzeria which Bob had noticed on our earlier walk back from the beach.
The food was great, accompanied by an enthusiastically incompetent pianist and we walked back very full of pizza, ready for bed and excited about the full days learning ahead!
