Two days for the price of one in this entry. Quite uneventful as you will see.
Between the public holiday and Mick's having contracted a second cold - just as the first was on the way out, a quiet day or two was in order.
Despite our best planning, we had to find a place for lunch as the cupboards were bare and Jan 1 of course is a public holiday. We didn't need to walk far till we found Gran Caffe SAICAF which was a very modern pizza restaurant with some pretensions - it even ran to tablecloths - but, as we discovered, not to pizza! We both ordered pizza but were told it is not available at lunch time. Mick had steak and I had tuna, both with zucchini and eggplant and potatoes that were laid out over the plate and cold, except for the potatoes. Mine came with Scamorza cheese but I couldn't eat it all so left the cheese. It was a nice meal but not great, and we followed up with a small chocolate pastry which was delicious. There was a large group near us with a little dog that yapped every time someone approached. The bottle of wine we chose was Piscine Delle Monarche- Monk's Pool- nice. A primitivo, a local variety.
The symptoms being unabated, and the weather having turned to rain, Tuesday was another quiet day. We thought we might go for a walk to the old town to see the old women making the orriechette in the street, but as it was raining they would have been inside and so more difficult to observe. It rained all day so we abandoned that idea and were quite happy to spend most of the day, apart from getting groceries, in our comfortable apartment.
