Hi everyone,

The trip so far has been great. The flight to Bangkok from Brisbane was delayed by about 2 hours, so didn't physically get onto the plane until about 2am however, the plane had those little tv's in the back of the seats so that made up for it!

The hotel we stayed at in Bangkok was about 200m from Khao San Road so spent most of the day there. Met with the girl who i am rooming with on the intrepid trip and another girl who was doing a different intrepid trip starting the following day at the hotel and we wandered Khao san most of the day; however i did take them to MBK centre and Siam square as one of them was keen on getting some MAC products!!

We have 16 on our tour group; 5 Australians in all, 2 Canadians, a Norweigen and the rest British. Everyone is nice and laid back and our tour guide is a dude; a little Cambodian man called Young Bun who always has this incredibly ridiculous smile on his face!

Yesterday we travelled overland by bus from Bangkok to Siam Reap in Cambodia. We'd been told horror stories about the road once you get over the Cambodian border. It was listed in our itinerary as the 'dancing road'- sure enough there were so many potholes in the clay road that it felt like we were on one of those machines that has the massive elastic band around your waist that wobbles to make you lose fat- try that for 6 hours... ha ha! I was dosed up on medication and had my new acupuncture wrist things that prevent travel sickness- between the two i was fine! we were very lucky the weather behaved itself as when it rains the buses get bogged very easily... alot of getting out of the bus and pushing we were told! However i have suffered from cankles... my feet and ankles are incredibly swollen and fluidy from the humidity- if anyone knows any quick fixes let me know! until then, they are slowly going down!!!

Today we travelled to Angkor Wat; we saw 4 of the main temples and the killing museum (a smaller version of the one in Phnom Penn)- many skulls and bones in a large glass cage on display. Angkor Wat was phenomenal- I can totally understand why it is listed as one of the seven wonders of the world. We went on an elephant ride around Angkor Thom, one of the oldest temples which was bumpy to say the least! Then fed it banana's that got sucked up it's trunk at a million miles an hour-i was petrified my hand would get sucked up too! They were such placid creatures- but then i'm sure the ones we saw have been heavily domesticated to cater for tourists. However, a monkey got very agitated with us taking photos of it and ran up to one of the guys on the tour and bit him- luckily it didnt go through his shorts! it was a face-off!!

I took over 100 photos but the internet cafe i'm at is a little dodgy and i have suspicions it could possibly have a virus.. so i will upload them over the next week or so, otherwise when i arrive in Vietnam.

That's all for now folks- i'm off to drink some Angkor beer; which apparently has won Australian award for best International beer-it's plastered all over the can- i'd never heard of it but it is delicious beer- try it! :-)
