The overnight train from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang was great! We had a very posh cabin complete with air conditioning and a flat screen TV blasting Backstreet Boys videos which was a little random. We had a bit of confusion over the dining car on the train. It turns out, it didn't really look like the one in the brochure! We ended up getting some noodles and veggies and squeezing into a seat to dine with several locals.
We arrived in Nha Trang around 5:45am were amazed to find that the city was already bustling! Probably because the temperature was much cooler at that time of the day. We walked to our hotel, checked in and had breakfast at the Cafe de Paris. On the way back to our hotel, we met Hiep and Son, two guys with a company called Easy Riders offering us a motorbike tour to our next destination of Hoi An. After some deliberation and negotiation, we took them up on the offer and prepared for a six-day trip through the central highlands of Vietnam on the back of a motorbike to see the "real Vietnam" beyond the major cities.
We spent the rest of the day on a beautiful beach and enjoyed the Nha Trang's hot sunshine!
We had dinner at Lac Canh, noted as "a Nha Trang institution." We grilled squid and barbecued pork right at our table and had an amazing meal. We also took our first cyclo trip back to our hotel and got to bed early in preparation for our big trip the next day!
