the day before we left iguassu falls we went to see the falls from the
argentinian side. it was so amazing! we went right up to the main water fall
- it was so loud. on the walk to it we saw monkeys and alligators!!!
soooooooooo cool!!!!!
when we got to buenos aires we went on a bike tour of the city. when we got
there we decided we would get a tandem!!! we thought it was a great idea,
but in hindsight probably wasnt our best idea!!! gemma wanted to go on the
front first, so we started cycling and went to turn a corner but instead of
turning we just carried on going and went straight into the curb!!!!!!! so
funny!!! especially for the people watching us from inside the
restaurants!!! anyway, we swapped over and we managed fine!! (apart from our
hands and bums were killing for days after!!) we dont think anyone could
have seen a tandem before, as when we were cycling past they all stopped and
cheered at us!! it was so funny! we were shouting `hola´ to everyone! we saw
all the touristy things like plaza de mayo where evita was last seen in
public, the area tango first originated, the widest river in the world
(200km wide!) and the restaurant president bush had his wallet stolen from a
couple of months ago! haha!
we did have to cross a few major roads though - like 6 lanes wide (luckily
we didnt have to cross the one that is 13 lanes wide!) and we literally
nearly died 3 times! we didnt really have any brakes so we just followed the
tour guide and shut our eyes!! ... apparently we were inches from 3
different buses!!!
since then we have been to the evita museum, the zoo (really cool!), a
catamaran trip down a river in tigre (which is about an hour away but a
really nice area), recoleta cemetry (really cool - people are buried in mini
houses and u can look throught their windows!!! hmm, bit gross actually!)
we have been eating steak most nights!!! its so good! of course we have been
going out lots too!! the clubs here are really cool - people go out at about
1am to 2am and stay out until 6am or 7am in the morning! crazy! we met up
with our canadian friends again and went out with them one night and also
met some ozzies and went out with them another night! we feel famous when we
go out -people queue up to talk to us!! bit annoying when we r trying to
dance though and people are grapping us from all angles.
we went and volunteered with some kids from a shanty town on thursday. it
was an amazing experience. really sad though - the area is not even on the
map because people dont want to acknowledge that they are there. we were a
bit worried when he had to call someone from the shanty town to pick us up
as no taxis will drive there!! but once we got there it was fine. we had
lunch in one of their houses - there are only a couple of rooms but a big tv
and lots of ornaments inside. the roof is corrugated iron and it was raining
so it was quite noisy. after lunch we went and helped out at a room
especially for kids to help them with schoolwork. it has been given by a
voluntary organistaion because there is not enough room at home for them to
do work and their parents usually work long hours. it was so great to help
them. everyone was so friendly. we were helping them with maths and teaching
them english. it was so much fun and they were actually really good!! better
than me at maths anyway!! i just told them it was right!! hehe!
we just had the most amazing crepe!! they have the nicest stuff called
dulche de leche which is kind of like caramel. we have it on most things! so
we tried it warm in a crepe and it was the best thing we have ever tasted!!
mmmm!
tomorrow we are getting up early and spending the day at a polo place. we
are watching a match then get to have a go!! cant wait! then on sunday we
are getting a 20 hour bus ride down to the patagonia.
keep in touch.
lots of love
