Slept in really late today woke up around lunch-time! We had to leave the country today as our 30day visa was now up! And we had nothing booked! So I checked the times of the trains to Cambodia, I though it was a night train at like 9pm or around there and it wasn't, there morning trains and we missed it at 5:55am!!!
The last one was leaving at 1:05pm, one hour!!! So we shot up, packed our bags and checked out within the space of a couple minutes, went to the tour operators to get our money back from the plankton tour which was cancelled and got on a tuk tuk to the station! and all with another 30minutes to spare! :D
We got breakfast from a bakery stall, croissants and pies for the journey :) the train takes 5 hours to get from Thailand to Cambodia and costs 90p! Not a typing error, I said it right, 90 actual, English, pence!!!
The platform was packed and as soon as the train pulled up everyone picked up all there bags and ran for the doors, no body cared they were pushing people out of the way and getting violent! we had no choice but to join in though there was hundreds of people all fighting for a seat on a train with only three carriages! We managed to get a seat though, it's rock hard, absolute hell when your hungover and you've got sweaty People stood up all around you all fighting for a bit if breeze from the open window!
And at every stop the train got more and more busier to the point where you couldn't move! There was an old lady got on too and I felt so bad I wanted to offer her my seat but then someone else would have stolen it first anyway! Anyway a short while later she got sat down...
Arrived in Poipet over an hour late as usual.... And got a tuk tuk for £1.60 to the border! I told him take us to the real border, we don't need visa's!! Surely enough he pulled up at a dodgy building just before the border and said here's where you buy your visa! It's £20! No darl! All the travellers I've met have already warned me about this scam so we stayed firm and said no take is to the border! He sighed at us for a few minutes hoping we'd change our minds and then took us to the right place! No tip for him!
We got our 30 day visa for Cambodia for 800baht (£16) and you needed to provide a passport photo, I had mine ready as I'd pre printed them but annie hadn't, so they charged us both another 100baht each, I think they couldn't be bothered to only charge one of us so instead they just didn't give me any change!
Arguing with him telling him I don't need one my photo is right here, was pointless! And in the end it's only £2 it's nothing, but still it's a scam, it's not there money and every pound we save is another nights accommodation here! So I know it sounds petty but believe me, become a traveller and you'll understand that literally every penny helps!
Anyway, a guy at the visa office arranged a taxi to Siem Reap for an American couple, you have to rent the full car, so he paired us up with them so we could split the bill, it worked out at £12per head! It took us 2hours to get there, and included in the price you then get a complimentary tuk tuk to the hotel of your choice! Or so it's supposed to be!
We said where we wanted to be, he drove us in the opposite direction! Everywhere we asked he said no don't go there, the lonely planet guide is wrong you can't stay there! Yes we can! Just drive us!!!! After a ride all through the main town and visiting one hostel that was too dirty to spend a week in, annie got so pissed off with the guy being rude she just got off the tuk tuk!!!
He pulled up at the lights and we just got out, not having a clue where we were, but it's safer than being rode around to god knows what crack dens this idiot was taking us to! No tip for you either mate ;)
The tuk Tuks here are wooden sheds that are literally pulled along the road by mopeds! Not a proper steel frame tuk tuk like in Thailand... And they drive even crazier if that's even possible!
We passed a guesthouse that looked alright and I managed to haggle the guy down to $7 a night :) dollars! I only have Thai baht! What absolute retards we've come to a foreign country with no currency!! Duh...
So we got a tuk tuk to the town, had to withdraw money from the bank, go get $20 changed in a restaraunt, to give him his $1! We both just got pizza to eat, it was 11:00pm we were tired, wanted a shower, can't be bother to start eating local kmher food tonight!
The waitresses were so lovely, the strip that were on was full of lots of contemporary bars and restaurants etc and she recommended we go to Angkor star hotel nearby for tomorrow... We took a walk around to see what was going on and then went to bed :)
photo of the day? A preying mantis flew onto my knee on the journey back to room...
