On the road again today. We leave Hotel Laxa at 8.45 after breakfast and today we head in a northerly direction to Húsavik, around the Tjörnes Peninsula to he Dettifoss Waterfall and Egilsstadir. Distance is around 150km but lots to see. Actually, I think it's the gravel roads and rugged driving that might slow us down. After the rain yesterday, we wake up to a beautiful sunny morning. Perfect for a day of exploring around Lake Mÿvatn. Not far from the hotel is Höfdi Promontory which reaches into the waters of the lake and is known for its interesting lava formations and rocky outcrops. The water in the lake is crystal clear. We don't have far to travel today distance wise so have a leisurely start. However we had not bargained on a flat tyre. Hertz were no use at all. Basically change it and get it fixed! We were unable to get it off after many attempts so the concierge at the hotel called a tyre repair place and a guy can out and put air in and we followed him back to the workshop where they extracted the nail and fixed the puncture. It rained over night and is drizzly this morning ...

Lovely hotel last night in Husafell, only 2 years old and in a beautiful location. From what we see Iceland doing its best to gear up for tourists. The roads are great and facilities are modern, very expensive though! Today we are traveling from Borgarfjördur to Blönduós to Varmahild to Akureyri. Spectacular Waterfalls, stunning scenery, thermal pools, a geysir and a bit of history.
