Bula, from the South Pacific, I arrived into nadi on the 25th of June and arranged my Bula pass for the Yasawa Islands . I decided to go for the 20 night pass which lets you island hop and gives you a meal package for 3 meals a day. Set off next day in the wind and rain for 5 hours to reach the most northern island of Tavewa and the Coral View resort . We arrived to cold fried egg plant and cold hard rice, delicious . I was a bit strung out afrom the long bumpy journey and cold egg plant was a bit limp and depressing but the place seemed nice enough so i pinched myself for feeling moody. After a swing in the hammock and a better feed that night we were given a mini concert by the local school kids which almost warmed the cockles of my non child friendly heart. Next day snorkelling straight out side the resort was superb lots beautiful coral and heaps of tropical fish also saw a massive shell as long as my arm. Next day got onto the boat to change islands but it sped off before i got the chance! Modified my plan and went to The Bay of Plenty instead , by now the wind is really howling , only 5 of us staying here the showers were outside with no roof and a flimsy shower curtain blowing in the wind to cover your modesty, freezing cold and blow dried i had a very quick shower and waved at a couple as they walked up the path to their Burre. That evening we played coconut swaying at which i was beaten by a small child ! Next to sunrise resort, this is the same island as the Blue Lagoon famous from the film by the same name. The Sunrise resort was over the wind side of the island but a scenic 40 min walk over the island or around at low tide gave great views and a bit of well needed exercise. snorkelling here was ok too. That night we had crab racing and drank some Kava (not the sparkling sort). Kava being a ground up root made from a peppery root and mixed with water when drank has a mildly narcotic affect and is a traditional drink Fijians take at every opportunity there are lots of kava ceromonies. Also had lots of Bounty Rum which is dark and very strong. Thanks Mat and Chris.Stayed here 2 nights next stop White Sandy Beach, a terrific misnomer. Lots of singing and dancing from the staff here also `activities ` galore. Onto Manta Ray Resort, this was defo a highlight as just round the corner is a channel where the regal Manta Rays collect to feed , snorkelling trips go twice a day, i got straight on that boat . Brilliant experience got lots of Manta action from face on to elbow to wing tip, i also saw them swim under me ansd loop the loop with their undersides on display , just beautifull , and very close encounter .Moving on to Octopus, Sunset and Waya Lailai resorts, all were different and each had its own novelty and plus points. For me the singing was amazing your greeted and sent off with asong and sometimes serenaded during mealtimes as well. I also made a couple of sumit hikes attended a sunday church service where the singing raised the roof and did so much snorkelling i`m mostly made of salt. The journey back to the main land was pretty terrifying lots of screaming and puking followed by us being hurled on a reef and stranded untill another boat cam to rescue us !! Luckily there was tea. After a night in Nadi at Sky lodge i caught a Sunbeam bus to pacific Harbour to Tsulu backpackers, since then the weather has not greatly improved and my diving was cancelled today so o`m going riding on the canopy zip lines later and hopefully making the famous shark dive tommorrow, fingers crossed. Yesterday was great i took a rivers Fiji tour and paddled down some tame rapids tooka look at a nice waterfall and got soaked in the river and later by the rain it was great fun and the interior is beautifull. Im now at Uprising packpackers waiting for lunch and taking full advantage of the free internet. Fiji is great rain or shine .
