Corvallis was turned into a winter wonderland over the past few days! The snow started early Thursday morning and was constant all the way through until the end of Friday. The result was 15 inches of snow which is quite unheard of here. Due to the snow, the campus was shut down and classes were cancelled on both Thursday and Friday and I ended up having a six day weekend!
I don't know why exactly snow is so exciting and magical. Maybe as Australians we rarely see it unless we drive many hours to a mountain for snow sports. Or maybe it's because of the countless fairy tales and Christmas stories that spark a little nostalgia in the child within us all. Whatever it is, the snow got me freaking excited. Eric and I took my snowboard to the little hills around dorms and played around for a bit. It got cold, pretty quickly (of course), so the rest of the day was spent inside and for me, working on some papers for school. That's really how the rest of the snow days continued because really, there isn't that much to do! On the Friday morning I did go for a 9 mile/14.5km…while it was snowing! It was like running through slippery sand so took a lot of concentration so as not to fall on my face. It was hard work but surprisingly not that cold (maybe because I was moving as swiftly as a gazelle). The experience was awesome though; I loved every minute and even had little icicles on my eyelashes!
The snow began to melt on the Sunday and then the fun was definitely over. Campus was just a sludgy mess and everyone just kept complaining they had to go to class…brats.
