Now we're off to Virginia! We first went off to Arlington cemetery, which was a tough walk because it was uphill half the time. It was beautiful to see all of the graves and the landscaping, but kind of uplifting to know how many people have died for our country or involvement in the government. Many people in the Arlington cemetery, really all of them, have been a huge part in what our country is today. The fact that they qualify to be buried in this cemetery is truly amazing. At the same location, we witnessed the ceremony of changing of the guard in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier. That was one of the most interesting things I've ever had the honor to experience. They walk 21 steps in front of the tomb and wait 21 seconds to do anything. I'm not for sure what the significance is with 21, but it sure is awesome to see them guarding it. To think they do that for hours on end is unbelievable! Next, we went to the marine court memorial. That was a remarkable destination to see all of the people who fought for our country. We're truly blessed to have people like that and be true Americans. After all of the memorials, we ate lunch the pentagon mall. It was enormous! I don't know if I'm just a sheltered Oklahoman or what, but our town is so tiny compared to these others and their buildings! Anyway, it was a three story mall with a huge food court on the first floor, so we are there. I had Panda Express and after that we went to Starbucks. We souvenir shopped a little, but then it was time to go. At last! We were on our way to mt Vernon, which was a excited about. To see the Washington family's house is really cool. Their land was absolutely gorgeous. They owned so much property, with a nine bedroom house, barns, and slave quarters. We got to go inside a lot of them and I like to think that I might have been standing in the same spot George Washington! Afterwards, we are dinner at Nandos, which was probably the best part of the day. The band one direction and the member Niall Horan loves Nandos, so I was really excited to try it finally. It was delicious! We put this perri perri sauce on the chicken and it made the flavors explode in your mouth. Then, after dinner, we had a ghost tour around Alexandria Virginia. The tour was spooky and a little creepy, but I wish we could've done more with the ghost tour. It was really neat to experience all of these new things coming my way every day of the trip. The days are exhausting and much different than my usual summer, but that's a good thing. The traditions here, like walking, is so different from norman. I can't get over how people walk to wherever whenever and it's perfectly normal. In norman, it's normal to walk, but we don't have nearly the amount of walkers the east coast has. Our newly picked up your guide, Sasa, has been a huge help and influence on this tri. She talks a lot, but I feel like what she says is very informative and helpful. She's very nice and easy to talk to as well. I miss Marrianne, but I know my group and I are still in good hands. She's been such a big help with this trip and I have no idea what we would do without her! Seeing a lot of Virginia has impacted me a lot. With New York and Boston, it's pretty busy and a lot of traffic. But with Virginia, it's such a cute and quiet place. Especially in Alexandria, there wasn't almost any traffic. I think that has been one of my favorite places to go and I can't wait to continue this trip!
