Hey Everyone,
It's been a while since our last update so if you have the time and are interested...prepare yourself for a long read! I've obviously turned 21 since the last entry, and since then both Danny and I have decided to get in touch with our adventurous sides by; jumping out of a plane at 14,000 ft, doing a bit of jelly wrestling and diving a 60 metre bungy...(OK it was just Danny who did the last one, but I'm saving myself for the 250 metre bungy in China - ha ha!)
Saturday 26th Feb - We went out for a few drinks in Cairns with Carly,Lois,Tina, Alex, our friend Gemma; who we met during our Fraser Island trip - she also checked into the beach house, (Carly's hostel) which was cool. With all good intentions of having a crazy night out, Danny and I wilted at around 12 (after our 10 hour bus journey up to Cairns the night before) and after getting a monsoon drenching and local kebab, we decided to call it a night!
Sunday 27th Feb - Shopping and exploring Cairns central with Carly, Kate & Ollie - all buying outfits for a night out on Tuesday to celebrate my bday!!
Monday 28th Feb - Danny gave me an early birthday card; with confirmation of our stay at a lovely hotel (so we could wake up in a bit of luxury for my bday) - just round the corner from Carly, we all had fish and chips at the hostel for tea!
*Tuesday 1st March*- Birthday time woo-hoo! - Danny had organised room service and breakfast in bed which was lovely! Skyped my family in the morning who all stayed up late to say Hi! Carly then called round to the hotel with cards - Skydive coach picked us up about 11! An hour and a half later we arrived at our jump location and literally had a 2 minute briefing before jumping into the tiniest, rickiest and rackiest propeller plane...can't really reveal too much else as it's all a bit of a blur now ( I was trying to do a bit of self-hypnosis that I've seen my Mum do "Cool, Calm, Collective" etc on the way up). All we will say is, it's one of the bizarrest things you can ever do...jumping off at speed into nothing but clouds...eeek! Danny,Ollie and I also found it a bit painful because the wind and rain was smacking us as we plummeted 120mph down to earth...however we would highly recommend doing it on a nice day!
Once our jumping adventure was over Carly and the girls were waiting for us with champers at the hostel and another of Danny's revealing birthday cards...which informed me that we were all off out for a 3 course meal at the Hilton hotel, and then going to watch the no.1 Illusion show in Cairns - which turned out to be fantastic! We all had such a giggle and were truly stunned by his tricks (especially the one where I was called up on stage - where at the end he said "Happy Birthday Meika" - I was so shocked and thought he'd read my mind...but as I came of stage I found out it was another, and final of Danny's surprises!) Later in the evening, and after the casino and many drinks - Gemma and I competed in Gilligans club "Jelly wrestling competition" in front of about 300 people (there were only about 20 around the ring when we singed up); where we were wrestling to win a 200$ bar tab and trip for 2 to some fancy island... sadly neither of us won any of the prizes but we but up a good fight! "Woolshed" bar after where you dance on tables and the rest is history shall we say...!
Wednesday 2nd March - Very lazy day, eating, sleeping and trying to drink us much water as we can to sober up...relaxed at Ollie & Kate's hotel and had Dominoes for dinner!
Thursday 3rd March - We hired a spaceship camper van (Ollie & Kate got one too). Drove Danny just outside of Cairns centre, where he did the bungy...pictures and videos to be uploaded once we get to a cafe! Visited Port Douglas - a lovely little town North of Cairns and Mossman Gorge - spent a very hot night in the hostel carpark with our new wagons!
Friday 4th March - We travelled up the Tablelands and saw the beautiful "Millaa Millaa" waterfall - where "Mysterious Girl" was filmed by the famous Aussie Peter Andre! We then travelled onto Josephine falls, where there is a natural rock slide - we didn't go down it though as there's been quite a lot of rain fall recently. After a couple more hours of driving we stopped off in a place called Tully, and settled at a caravan site...so many bugs and hundreds of toads around, so we were in bed by about 8pm!
Saturday 5th March - We were up bright and early and drove down to Townsville! Visited the rock pools, did some swimming and then checked into another camp-site. Massive (and I mean Tarantula style) spider jumped out from the boot opening...Danny and I decided that between the bugs and sheer heat of the camper, that this will be our last night in the spaceship! Watched the Manchurian Candidate on the van's DVD player whilst Danny drove the camper round the park most of the night, trying to find a breeze!
Sunday 6th March - Said our sad goodbyes to Kate & Ollie as they make their way down to Brisbane. Drove through Mission Beach - which was hit terribly by cyclone Yassi. Once we arrived back in Cairns, we tried out the local pub for a roast which was awful compared to back home! Danny kept himself up to go and watch the Liverpool V Man United match at the casino and returned about 2am a very happy bunny shall we say!
Monday 7th March - Danny and I did a shift at the hostel to pay off our stay so far. Danny drove the bus into town and the beach a couple of times, whilst I scrubbed the communal kitchen from top to bottom...I obviously drew the short straw with that one! As the weather wasn't great we headed to the cinema and saw "Black Swan" which I really enjoyed...Danny not so much as it's quite a weird film!
Tuesday 8th March - We took the camper to "Kuranda" and saw some of the village markets. Unforutnately we couldn't get to Cape Tribulation because the roads were flooded :( As the weather was set to continue with storms, Danny and I booked our flights down to Brisbane to hopefully get some last minute, good weather. Birthday cards finally arrived from home which was lovely!!Went to the woolshed with Carly & Lois to have a few drinks on our last night in Cairns.
Wednesday 9th March - All feeling slightly hung over, we grabbed lunch with Carly, where she dropped us off at Cairns airport and said more sad goodbyes. Both of us slept the whole flight - we're getting good at this flying malarkey now! Caught a train to Fortitude Valley and have booked two nights in a nice, central hotel...splashed out on 7.50$ steaks for dinner down the road.
Thursday 10th March - Today...pwhoorr....we've finally got there (this must be a record blog for any of you who've managed to read this far!) We've got all our stinky laundry done and our room currently looks like a retail shop; clothes are literally hanging all over the place! Have just booked a hire care for tomorrow to travel up the Gold Coast for a couple of days, and met up with Kate and Ollie for a few hours before their flight home tonight, have now said our sad goodbyes all over again! Just on the hotel computers looking for Hong Kong Hotels now - where we arrive on Monday...not long now until we see you all again guys..........
Thanks for reading.
Chow for Now.
Lots of Love,
Meika & Danny
