This is going to be a very quick entry, for two reasons
1. We've lying on a beach for the past month - so the amount I have to tell is based purely on things that will make you jealous..... white sands, crystal blue waters, tanning, etc....
2. It's going to rain in approx 10 mins as the monsoon season is started - and I've gotta dash back to my little hut before the heavens open!
So I left you in Koh Tao...
After this we went to Koh Samui for 5 days, which is an island that creates much controversary between travellers due to, in my opinion, it being like a mini Bangkok (markets, markets, markets) and hosting a McDonalds, Burger King and Starbucks! I found the island tooo commerical and more of a package holiday resort than a well kept island. Next we made our way down West to arrive in Phuket which was similar however this had a large shopping centre which held a cinema and bowling alley and gym! We were only there for 3 nights in total, but I actually didn't mind as Dan and I went to the gym every day and we watched a couple of new films; "Watchmen" and "Benjamin Button" and had a game of bowling - so very home from home things which made a nice break.
Next we arrived in Phi Phi - the place we had all been looking forward to, due it to being one of the most beautiful places in the world and famous for the film "The Beach". If you have seen my facebook photos you will see why this place i have officially named Paradise! This was the area that was hit by the Tsuanmi so it was interesting hearing from local Westerners about the tragic event and the difference in the isalnd today. Its only a small isalnd, taking abotu 20 mins to get from one bay to the other. The island had a population, back in 2004, of around 10,000 and roughly 4,000 people were killed in the Tsuanmi - most of them were Ferrang (local word for tourist) as the locals live on the hills.
Afer 5 days there we travelled to Ko Lanta, there was nothing there really and we only spent three days there relaxing by the pool. WE are now in Krabi, another package holiday resort but nicer. Now we're nearing the end of March, this is the middle of their Summer, it's a lot hotter. With temperatures 35C+ most days and the nights minimum of 25C. We had to upgrade to air con as it was too unbearable at night to come home hot and sticky and step into a room that was hotter than it was outside if you can imagine a room hotter than 25C at gone midnight you'll get the picture! Luckily as we are approaching their monsoon season (end of April/beg May) the rain has started to set in, and every day for the last few, at around 5.15pm the storm comes in. Lighting splits the sky apart and the deepest rolls of thunder I've ever heard grumble in the sky whilst the rain lashes down for a good hour. Hence why over here everything is built on stilts because when the moonsoon season arrives I can imagine the place would be flooded!!! It makes it slightly cooler when we leave for dinner around 7pm!
We are leaving Thailand tomorrow to head down to the Malaysia border, an 8hr journey. Then we are staying the night in teh state capital before taking anotehr bus and then ferry to the Perithan islands for a few days. WE've got to be in Kula Lumpar around 26th as it's Dan's birthday on 27th and we don't really want to be travelling that day or the next. And ready to fly out of Singapore on April 2nd to Melbourne. It's weird that we will be leaving Thailand which has becomne our home for the last two months, the batering and cheap food will certainly be missed - it will be a shock when we get a taxi from the airport to Melbourne!!! However I am looking forward to being considered an equal in a country again - over here femine products are hard to come by. They obviously don't shave their legs , or just wax, as they sell copeless amounts of gillette razors for men but none for women and I've survived on the three razor blades I packed back in January, which has been hard work and I have succumb to a few cheap waxes as otherwise it's been like shaving with a blunt knife!!!
