Night location: Rome, Italy

A muse of the day: Today we were stalked by the rude Americans who sat next to us at 'Aurora' last night. We know that they are rude for several reasons: they made outrageous culinary requests at dinner including extra sauce and chili flakes; they walked purposefully to the head of the queue boarding our ferry to Naples this morning; and they took up an additional two business class seats on the train to Rome with their six hard shell suitcases, and sat back and expected the porter to solve their luggage dilemma for them.

Sadly we bade farewell to our favourite place on earth early this morning and began the transit via walk-up-spectacular-pinch, funicular, ferry, taxi, train, and taxi to Rome.

Our final night accommodation is The Garabaldi Suites located near Via Frattina, the Spanish Steps and our favourite gelato store, Venchi. The male receptionist was incredibly helpful and even offered to carry Amber's bag up the steps for her. After settling in, we immediately set off to Venchi for our first gelato. Gemma had cherry chocolate which she said was the best of the trip.

Lunch was in Antica Enoteca which is one of David and Amber's favourite restaurants in Rome. The service was slow but the food was excellent. Gemma is on a roll as she maintained that her eggplant parmigiana was the best she has ever had.

Following lunch we strolled through the cobble stone streets back to our old haunts including Vitti where Gemma and David enjoyed a cafe machiato at the bar (true Romans), and Amber bought stationary from Campo Marzio. We came across a high end designer pet accessorary store and purchased an expensive gift for Lily that is apparently 'indestructable.' We shall see!

Walking through the Via Del Coranari, Piazza Navona and Campo di Fiori was spectacular. Our second gelato stop was at 'Grom' where we were all devastated to discover that the salted caramel flavour that Amber and David had raved about was no longer offered. We ordered other flavours instead.

Our final stop before returning to the suites for a rest was the Trevi Fountain because Gemma insisted that if we didn't throw coins in we would never return to Rome. Sadly, the fountain was covered in scaffolding and not running. The Romans had partitioned off a pond for 'coin throwing' so fortunately we are all going to return to Rome, (possibly with the exception of Gemma as her coin missed). Conveniently located near the Trevi Fountain was our third gelato stop for the afternoon where the award winning specialty is the miele (honey).

Dinner was at our favourite vegetarian restaurant as discovered by Dad in 2011. Gemma continued her roll with stuffed zuccini flowers followed by porcini mushroom ravioli. After dinner we returned to Venchi for our fourth and final gelato of the day.
