Night Location - Athens
A Muse of the Day: Two hours into our 14.5 hour flight from Sydney to Dubai, Gemma and Amber were horrified and then amused to see the man seated in front of Gemma stand and remove his trousers completely after the faulty cup poured red wine all over him. He then sat quite calmly down again in just his underwear.
Today marked the start of our three week Mediterranean adventure. We departed Sydney at 9:10PM after being dropped at the airport by Dad and Hector loaded to the hilt. After a hearty meal in the Qantas lounge (we are getting our money's worth according to David) we made a quick last minute phone call to Nanna to wish her a Happy Birthday.
Aside from the man with no trousers, the trip to Dubai was uneventful as we all watched movies, ate and slept stacks on David. David as always located the chocolate and nabbed the 3 last KitKats available (legend).
Keeping on the theme of getting our money's worth we entered the Terminal A Emirates Business Lounge for a 4 hour stop over. During this time we managed to consume at least $60 worth of Voss water, and a full buffet breakfast with at least 20 hash browns eaten between us!
The best part about Dubai is the short final leg to your next destination, in this case, Athens. The trip could have been shorter according to Gareth who sat next to a very wriggly woman who liked to encroach on his space and wake him up. We were all very pleased to get off the plane and happy to see the bags all show up at the other end.
David has been doing lots of research for this trip and so guided us easily to the Metro where we purchased cheap tickets into the heart of Athens. We spilled out of the Metro station into a nice park and then wound our way down small streets and lanes to our hotel, The Electra Palace. After a quick shower we put our swimmers on and located the rooftop pool with an incredible view over the Acropolis. Sadly the pool was filled with many loud, retired American tourists and Amber felt that she was on holiday in the US instead of Greece. The pool was definitely a welcome change from the humidity and the cramped confines of our Emirates seats.
Feeling quite refreshed we set off into the pedestrian streets of Athens guided by Gareth. He took us to the Athens flea markets - Monastiraki, and then we had an alfresco dinner in Piazza Duomo.
