After just one night in Mount Gambier, we drove to Murray Bridge. It was one of our longer journeys, 380km, and it took just over 4 hrs. We drove through hectares and hectares of vineyards - including the Coonawarra and Padthaway regions, and others we hadn't heard of eg Wrattonbully. The terrain then changed and became very flat, dry and uninteresting. It was wheat country and we travelled alongside the railway with its Viterra grain silo stations along the way. There was also a pipeline following the road which (having googled it) we think was the 142km water pipeline from Tailem Bend (on the Murray) to Keith - since we drove through both places.
We didn't do much in Murray Bridge. It's South Australia's 5th largest city but, apart from a zoo and a museum (closed when we were there), there was nothing listed as being worthy of a tourist's attention. There is, of course, the Murray River which we'll be cruising for the next week. We chose Murray Bridge only as a stopover en route to joining our houseboat in Mannum.
