Day 17: Halfway Babaaaaay! (Carrión de los Condes to Moratinos)
This morning it was absolutely lashing down and I mean lashing down! I had my anorak hood done up so rightly around my face that for most of the walk I felt as though I was looking out of someone's belly button.
After another fairly unimpressive 28km walk through the Meseta we arrived at Moratinos, sore footed and perhaps a scoach grumpy. My mood was not improved when I volleyed what I thought to be a pebble and what was actually a piece of sh*t.
Once settled in our albergue, which was owned by a medieval Italian couple who saw fit to charge €10 a night and then have the audacity to charge €1.50 for a paper mattress cover and pillow case; something which the every other hostel has provided for fee!
Feeling perturbed we decided to spend our money else where, rather than with the pikey Italians and opted for a local Spanish establishment which offered a pilgrim's three course menu for €10. It tasted glorious and for the first time in a while I felt full - winning!
Having threaded a few more blisters and dabbed them with salt I headed to bed hoping that my poor feet would survive tomorrows trials.
