So it's been a week since I've arrived in CT.
After 3 days of storms, spring finally came bringing beautiful colours and widespread good mood.
People here are incredibly friendly. I haven't felt in danger for a second.
Cape Town is a very fascinating city. It reminds me of San Francisco with its hills and different colours. Table Moutain is really impressive although often covered by clouds.
Yesterday I went to visit Robben Island which is where political prisoners were deported until 1990s. It's where Mandela spent 18 of the 27 years of imprisonment.
It was really emotional as we were shown the prison by an ex political prisoner who spent 7 years there. He explain all sorts of physical and psychological tortures they went through and how they managed to survive and hope.
The prison is now a museum in order for the the whole world to understand and never to forget what Robben Island was and meant.
What I found astonishing is that some ex political prisoners and some wardens decided to live permanently together on the Island to prove that reconciliation in the name of peace is not only auspicable but also possible and necessary.
Never has forgiveness seemed harder to me.
The visit left me sad and hopeful at the same time. Difficult feeling to convey in words.
Anyway tomorrow morning I'm off to Namibia. Will keep you updated...
