Although sunny...was windy and high of 65. So instead of the beach/pool, we pick up groceries at local Sol Supermarket and head up into the mountains for Ronda...a medieval / Moorish picturesque town about 30 km from Marbella. Fresh warm baguettes, sliced meat/cheese piled on in the car for lunch. The drive is curvy with precipituous cliffs. Lots of memorials and markers from past guard-rail raptures and I have 4 backseat drivers screaming at me the whole way. So it drops 25 degrees w/ the wind chilll and the clouds roll in. We're in shorts and light jackets. Freezing. True Americans sticking out. We walk the very quaint cobblestone streets, but most storefronts are closed...maybe the Sat before Easter ? Catch a few Rick Steve's guidebook sites:
- The Plaza de Toros....one of the oldest bullfighting rings in Spain c. 1785. Had an interesting museum @ 6e but family of 5 for 20e.
- The Nuevo Puente....a bridge that spams a chasm that splits the village.
Finally have some Chocolat Taza, Cafe, and Gelato, wander about debating whether we should duck in a store and buy some jeans....but the clouds win over and it starts sprinkling. We head southeast to salvage whats left of the daylight at 6 pm to find some pre-historic cave paintings at Cueva de Pileta ....about 20 km away.
