Right. I said a day of nothing but Pool/Beach time after Gibraltar, didn't I? The Marriott Marbella filled out with sunbathers with the temp. barely reaching 70F. Sky was clear, blue, and easy enough to get a burn. We did some walks on the beach. Jen & Ash actually went for a dip in the 65 degree sea. The resort has two indoor heated pools...one right on the beach, but we prefer outdoors and the hottubs are packed. So we look up an off-road ATV company in Calahonda and they agree to take us at 10:30am. Ash too ?? Yep!!
We pull in at a BP station and follow the guy into the foothills. There we suit up in coveralls, boots, and helmets. The girls get a 90 second lesson on how to run a quad ATV and we're off. No liability forms, ID check..nada. I'm on a big one w 5 gears and the girls get automatics. Our guide looks like he's in high school and Jenny decides he's "hot". She rides in the #2 spot the entire time. We do ravines, streams, boulder strewn fields, some small sand/dirt jumps. I can't believe at this high rate of speed that Ash is so bold at 11 years old and I stay close by her. We're going FAST!! The guide rolls his quad. I help him get up and turn it over. Good example of how NOT TO RIDE! Then each girl in succession either drives into a hole in the stream, kicks their chain, or floods out. My fingers are crossed and so far no one is injured. Last run back to the town and we open them up, passing and racing each other. As KT and I hang back to fishtail in the sand creek bed, Ash races ahead on the last hill to overtake Jen. Jen goes over the side and runs off the trail over an enbankment. She comes off in mid-air and lands in some scrub while the ATV flips over a few times and amazingly lands on all 4 tires w/ the motor idling. Of course ....it's panic for a few minutes, but Jenny stands up and yells " Hey....let's do that again, it was like slo-mo!!" . We inspect a couple of scratches, check her over and make a pact not to tell Mom. We get back to the Marriott and tan, play ping pong, swim, and finally head up to "Charlies" for some cheeseburgers to end our "do-nothing day". Everyone is tired and relieved.
