Cuevas de la Piletas is famous for its pre-historic cave drawings of hunters, bison, etc...but en route Lyn reads in the guidebook at 6:30 that they take last tour at 7 pm until April. With risk of driving 30 minutes further beyond Ronda in threatening darkness/rain for no-admittance, then having to back-track we spy the Cueva del Gato hotel/bar and pull in. Hey..there's a cave and its impressive!! There are no guides. We don't dare venture in too far, but it's fun climbing and we get the feel of pre-historic man by spelunking a bit inside. The cave was formed by a stream coming out of the mountain and it is the most CRYSTAL clear water you'll ever see. A wire/pulley is rigged so in the hot months, you can hang glide down from one of the cliffs and drop into the pool at the bottom. There is even a sign that early Mauro Man once inhabited the region ( don't worry....its charcoal from a wood fire). Have a sherry and sit outside the quaint hotel bar patio afterwards.
