Enjoyed our meetings and colleagues. Went to dinner at a typical Guangdong/Canton restaurant. Menu was very creative. Plenty of exotics - baby pigeon, sting ray, fish guts, beetles, snakes, chicken feet.    Was a bit naseous, but likely because of jet lag.  

Grab breakfast in the Asia International restaurant rotating at 46 stories above Guangzhou. Daylight looks different. Pearl River valley jungle onside and stretching tenements and skyscrapers rising up in the other.    I cab 20 minutes to the Guangzhou East station. No signs in English and I walk around trying to read chinese before I find an English speaking agent who confirms the right track and that my ticket is correct.   Train is very nice, high speed...

Arrive after 11 pm and my company screws up the pick-up. 20 guys trying to sell me sim-cards are chasing me around baggage claim because I'm clearly not moving out. After an hour and deciding I won't be picked up, I bee-line for the first cab in lineup.   The driver doesn't speak English nor does the lead of the sim-card mafia, but he jumps in the front seat after I negotiate 200 yuan for the ride into the city using the hotel's chinese chara...

AirCanada flight went fast - 14 hours - although the seat controls didn't work. The steward had to lay on the floor and bang some gears to get it to recline. Roughing it in Business Class, so wasn't too shook up.   7 hour layover in Hong Kong. Bought the $14 ticket to train into the city from airport. Flew to Toronto for a weekend Marriott Sat night so the APAC airline ticket came down in price. Guess its the high Asian population in Toronto that makes the fares lower to Hong Kong
