The flight to Hanoi was short and easy, although the fact that another flight had gone down in the Mediterranean 2 days before was weighing on my mind. When we arrived in Laos, we first had a two day trip down the Mekong River. A friend had recommended we do this and I was looking forward to it a lot. I wasn't disappointed. So I finished my last blog at the point we got to Haad Salad Beach in Ko Phangan. It was a lovely relaxing place. We stayed literally 20 metres from the beach in a small beach hut with a hammock outside. It was lovely but the one downside was the beach was so shallow so you couldn't swim in it. Thailand is hot. Very hot. In fact it has three seasons - hot, very hot and extremely hot. We got here in April - the hottest month when temperatures are 36-40 degrees every day. On the bright side, it also means this is the month of Songkran - the Thai New Year which they celebrate with…..a big water fight!
