Hey Guys. Its been a while again. This was due to it being Sunday in BA so nowhere open and Saturday wasn't a thinking day. So whats been going on?
Well, met the new group in Santiago a canadian couple, graheame (hitler hunter) and laura, aaron my new roomate, emily a girl from santiago, jo an aussie and greg an old canadian (miserable and mumbling and seems to spend all of his time in casinos :s)
Pucon was a small town looking v ery swiss in architecture dueto the german colonisation. Met phillipe our man on tnhe ground in pucon for activities. Signed up for the volcanoe excursion but due to con sistent downpours we were unable to do this. Please note whilst i write this we havent had a sunny day since santiago and its only just cleared today now. We embarked on other activities, i did white water rafting whilst others did motorbiking and horseriding. We also went out into the mountains and saw the snow and met the local mapuche people. One night we had a bbq with all you can eat and drink and then hit a local club un til 5 am. Good times :)
We all just about reach the bus in the morning as everyone sleeps past their alarms including eric. Heading for Puerto Varas. Again german style on the shores of the lake. Sleep in the afternoon to recouperate. Next day we head for Chiloe Island and the weather gets better in the afternoon. Is an amazingly beautiful place, all green, only two main towns with pops of 150,000. Everyone is subsistence living on their farms. Tour round and visit penguin island which has a distinct lack of penguins given its name.
7h Bus ride to Argewntina and Bariloche. The rain follows. Graheame is pleased as he can now find hitler. This is another german style town due to colonisation and very turisty. Known for its chocolate (but i've had better). Hire a couple of cars andmeet up with Erica Lawrence Tim Charlotte and Suzanne and drive around the local lakes and mountains, really good but weather spoilt the views a bit.
Today is an interesting day, We take a tour to the black glacier and the tronador with a local guide called Pia. Day starts well but soon the rain threatens to spoil it again. Buses are turning back, the river level has risen and it can't be crossed. Determined after not seeing the volcanoe and with no objections from Pia we carry on. We gun the river and make it to the other side, now it is only us and buses who made it across earlier. We lunch after which the other buses turn back as there is more water and a crack in the road. We plough on regardless. We reach it and have it all to ourselves, definately worth it!! On the way back we cross the river again but get stuck half way. We have to wade knee deep out of the river to the rangers' pick up and get driven to saftey. The van has had it. We wait 2h for the rescue bus. Sposed to be back around half 6, make it around 10. Pia is very sorry for the bad day but we tell her not to worry and that we had all had an absolutley amazing day.
Leaving Bariloche for Buenos Aires, 21h bus ride but we get an upgrade for 50p to full reclining and wider seats, good food and free champagne. Leave at 1115am, around 1am we are hit by vandals and catapults who break the windows, drive on for 3hours but then ditch the bus around 4am and get on another. Arrive BA around 11am, almost the full 24 hours.
Spend the time in BA wathing tango shows going to Eva Peron's Grave, Markets and Clubbing till 6am.
Left this morning for Uraguay, 3hour ferry. Spent the day golf cart driving round the city.
Sorry for the Briefness, time is of the essence and all. More details upon my imminent return. Hope all is good. See you soon xx
